Five detained in drugs raids across Bristol

Five people have been detained in a series of drugs raids and operations in multiple locations across Bristol.

Police said they have seized what they suspect to be cocaine, cannabis and spice in a ‘day of action’.

They raided homes in Easton, Lawrence Hill and St George, and also targeted street dealers, arresting a man in Horfield.

The day of action, on Friday, was part of an operation to ‘disrupt on-street drug dealing’, a local police chief said.

A man was arrested in Horfield on suspicion of possessing cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply. The 37-year-old from Easton was spotted after patrolling officers witnessed suspicious activity in St Pauls.

Police said their officers seized a large number of wraps of suspected Class A illegal drugs. The man was later released under investigation.

Two different addresses were also raided, and at one, a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine with intent to supply - he was later released under investigation.

At another address, a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

A fourth man, aged 55, was voluntarily interviewed and is due to be reported for possessing spice with intent to supply, police said, following a search of his home.

"Despite the current health crisis we're carrying on with our work to reduce the impact on our communities of drug dealing and the crime and anti-social behaviour that goes with it,” said Neighbourhood Sergeant Chris Green.

"By seizing suspected cocaine and other drugs as well as a large amount of cash, we've disrupted drug supply in the city, even if we're not yet ready to charge suspects. We're now carrying our forensic examinations and making other enquiries to build strong cases to put before the courts,” he added.
