Five people have died after a small plane crashed near Austin in Texas on Thursday night.
The wreck occurred in Wimberley, a city approximately 40 miles southwest of Austin, according to Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra.
Becerra said the plane, a Cessna 421C, was flying at a high rate of speed when it went down around 11 p.m.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released pending notification of their families.
“Based on current findings, there is no indication of a mid-air collision. A second aircraft traveling in the vicinity landed safely in New Braunfels,” Becerra wrote.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been informed and will lead the investigation into the crash.
Wimberley has a population of about 3,000 and is a popular tourist and hiking destination in the Texas Hill Country next to the Blanco River.
