Five counties struggling to exit lockdown as Covid-19 cases stay stubbornly high

Ireland's coronavirus cases are levelling off, but not quite as quick as we would like.

We're still battling with the third wave fall-out from Christmas.

There were 525 cases and 9 additional deaths reported to the HPSC yesterday.

Cases need to be well below 200 before the Government considers a return to 'normality'.

It's expected that the 5km travel limit will be lifted in April, and a return to children's sport and the construction sites will take place.

However there are still some countries struggling to get their own case numbers down.

The national incidence rate in Ireland is 150.2 at the moment.

There are currently seven counties above the national average.

Offaly is still the hardest hit country, with an incidence rate of 388.7 which is more than twice the national average.

Another county with a high incidence rate is Longford with 276.5.

Kildare comes in third on the list with a slightly lower incidence rate than Longford with 237.7.

Dublin, the capital of Ireland, despite having the highest population, only has the fourth highest incidence rate at 224.

Meath has an incidence rate of 210.7, which is still a lot higher than the national average.

Donegal has struggled with their case numbers in the past, often sitting at the higher end, but their incidence rate is now at 177.8.

Carlow is the seventh country with an incidence rate higher than the national average, sitting at 154.6.

Here's a full list of the countries with an incidence rate lower than 150.2, with some good news for two counties who are level par at the bottom of the list:
