Five remanded in custody on murder charges after Burnie death

Five people have been remanded in custody after being charged with murder following an altercation in Tasmania's north west in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 23-year-old man died in the North West Regional Hospital after the altercation in Ritchie Avenue in Burnie about 3:00am on Sunday.

Murder charges have been laid against Geoffrey James Deverell, 34, Lucas Shane Ford, 28, Kelsey Maree Ford, 21, Michael William Hanlon, 52, and Cody Christopher Shane Sheehan, 31.

They will next appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court on April 7.
