Five car crash on Scots road causes rush hour delays

Emergency crews raced to a five car crash in rush hour on a major Scots road this morning.

The pile-up happened just after 8.50 am west of Elgin on the A96 Inverness to Aberdeen road near Dr Gray’s Hospital.

Both lanes were restricted as emergency workers battled to clear the road.

Miraculously nobody was injured in the major smash.

The road was fully reopened at 10.10am.

Roads around the north-east have been hit by ice and snow recently amid a nationwide drop in temperatures.

Transport Scotland tweeted: "Grampian - Weather, Road users are advised to drive with care due to low temperatures and the risk of ice currently affecting driving conditions on many roads throughout the region."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We were made aware of a crash involving five vehicles on the A96 just to the west of Elgin shortly after 8.50am on Monday, 10 January.

"There were no reported injuries and the road was fully cleared around 10.05am."
