Five British nationals, including one child, diagnosed with coronavirus in France

Five British nationals have tested positive for coronavirus in France, according to local health officials.

The Brits, including one child, have been diagnosed after coming into contact with a person who had travelled from Singapore, said health minister Agnes Buzyn.

She said they are not in a serious condition.

While their identities have not been confirmed, the group are believed to be family members who were staying in the same ski resort chalet in Savoie, eastern France.

The patients were taken to Saint-Etienne and Grenoble hospital on Friday night in Lyon.

Originally reported as just one new case of coronavirus in France, a statement by Ms Buzyn said: "That original case was brought to our attention last night, it is a British national who had returned from Singapore where he had stayed between January 20 and 23, and he arrived in France on January 24 for four days."

The number of coronavirus cases in the country is now at 11, with three cases in the UK so far.

A British honeymooner who was transferred from cruise liner, Diamond Princess, to hospital in Japan with the coronavirus is said to be feeling well and in good spirits.

Alan Steele, from Wolverhampton, was moved to hospital on Friday while his wife Wendy remained on board the ship.

According to Chinese media, their latest figures show that there are now 31,774 cases in China, with another 26 in Hong Kong, 10 in Macao and 16 in Taiwan.

There have been 722 deaths, while 2,050 have been discharged from hospital.
