Five behind-the-scenes moments from Man City's derby day win over Manchester United

Millions of people across the globe tuned in on Sunday to see Manchester City demolish neighbours Manchester United 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium, as Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scored hat-tricks on a remarkable afternoon.

Pep Guardiola's side surged into a 4-0 lead at half-time, before Haaland and Foden completed their trebles to put City 6-1 up. United scored two late consolation goals to add a touch of respectability to the score line, but in truth Erik ten Hag's side were thoroughly outclassed by City.

While City did their talking on the pitch, there were a few interesting behind-the-scenes moments captured before, during and after the match by CityTV's cameras. Here are the best bits.

Old friends catching up

Pep Guardiola and Erik ten Hag go back a long way. Ten Hag was in charge of Bayern Munich's B team from 2013-15, coinciding with Guardiola's spell as the club's first team coach.

The pair worked together closely, with Ten Hag crediting Pep as one of his coaching influences. In the past Guardiola even suggested that Ten Hag could be the man to replace him as City boss one day, although that now seems unlikely. Regardless of who they manage the managers are both still friends - cameras caught the pair enjoying an animated conversation in the tunnel before Sunday's game.

Three Lions reunion

United defender Harry Maguire has come under fire in recent months for some poor performances, but he is clearly well-liked among his peers.

John Stones and Kalvin Phillips sat out Sunday's win through injury, but both made time before the game to meet and chat to Maguire in the tunnel, who was also injured.

Alvarez enjoying himself

City's players have reputations for being consummate professionals, always humble and never ones to gloat about their achievements. But as Julian Alvarez found out, when you are serving your rivals a trouncing then it is hard not to look a little smug.

This was only the Argentine's first Manchester derby, but as he walked towards the dressing room at half-time he was struggling to stifle a grin. Who can blame him?

Haaland motivating at half-time

It says a lot about Erling Haaland's attitude that despite having already scored a brace to help put his side 4-0 up at half-time, he was the one clapping his hands and motivating his teammates as they walked down the tunnel for the second half. The 22-year-old has an elite mentality to go with his elite striking abilities.

Mahrez in good spirits

He may well have been City's top goal-scorer last season, but Riyad Mahrez is having a pretty tough time of it at the moment. The Algerian winger signed a new contract over the summer but has only started two league matches this season.

His performances have been inconsistent at best, but he's not letting that get him down. Mahrez appeared to be in good spirits as he emerged for the second half, whistling to himself as he walked down the tunnel towards the substitutes' bench. It surely won't be long before he's back amongst the goals.
