Five batches of houmous sold in Aldi and Lidl recalled over salmonella danger

Five batches of Aldi and Lidl houmous have been recalled due to the presence of Salmonella.

The products, which come from the UK, have been recalled by Zorba Delicacies, and customers have been warned not to consume them.

From Aldi the recalled batches are:

Deli Brand Reduced Fat Classic Houmous Triple Pack (3x60g), with a use by date of 3/11/2019.

The Reduced Fat Houmous Selection Triple Pack (3x60g) with a use by date of 2/11/2019 and 3/11/2019.

Deli Brand Reduced Fat Classic Houmous Triple Pack (FSAI)

The Deli brand Basil Houmous topped with Pesto and Parmesan (170g), with a use by date of 4/11/2019.

From Lidl, the following two batches have been recalled:

Meadow Fresh brand Red Pepper Houmous (170g) with a use by date of 6/11/2019.

Meadow Fresh brand Classic Houmous stacker (3x60g), use by date 6/11/2019.

A Food Safety Authority of Ireland spokesman added: "People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.

"The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.  Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. 

"The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

"The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness."
