Five arrested over Sydney kidnap

Five men have been charged over the alleged kidnapping of one man and conspiracy to abduct another on Sydney's lower north shore.

Police say a 20-year-old man was last month confronted by two men in Gore Creek Reserve at Greenwich before being forced into a car and taken to an unknown location.

Detectives have been told the victim was threatened and assaulted before being released.

The incident was later reported to officers at Chatswood who began investigating before the force's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad took over.

As a result, strike force detectives and Tactical Operation Unit officers arrested four men aged between 27 and 33 at a service station on Victoria Road at West Ryde, just before 2pm on Friday.

A home at nearby Macquarie Park was raided shortly after and a 24-year-old man was also taken into custody.

The group has been charged with a series offences including taking and detaining someone with the intention of obtaining an advantage, conspiring to do so, and possessing and using an offensive weapon.

Four of them were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday while another remains under guard in Westmead Hospital and is being treated for a dog bite.
