Five arrested after man slashed in 'horrific' attack

Detectives are investigating after a man was slashed in the face and stabbed in the hip during a “horrific attack”.

Cheshire Police said officers received a report of a serious assault at around 8pm on Thursday, December 23, following a “disturbance” on St Ambrose Road in Widnes.

They discovered a 41-year-old man’s face had been slashed and his hip stabbed and he was taken to hospital.

He has since been discharged.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said a 25-year-old man from Kirkby, a 19-year-old man, two 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy, all from Widnes, were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.

They have been released on conditional bail.

Officers appealed for anyone who may have information to come forward.

Detective Constable Laura Sandbach said: "This was a horrific attack which could have resulted in devastating consequences.

"We are doing all we can to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

"Patrols have been stepped up in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to an officer.
