Whether you love or hate the hot summer weather , there’s one thing most can probably agree on - the heat does nothing for our beauty sleep.
The sweltering temperatures can cause restless nights for many - and sometimes even having the covers off, the fan on full blast and the windows wide open just doesn’t cut it. With the Met Office issuing warnings for extreme heat in the coming days and temperatures predicted to reach record highs of up to 40°C, things are set to be more uncomfortable than ever.
Luckily, there are some easy steps you can take to keep yourself cool- and The Sleep Charity has issued some advice to help out people struggling in the heat. Here are their five top hacks when it comes to getting better sleep during a scorcher.

Keep your feet cold
If you’re ever feeling too hot, focus on your feet - keeping them cool lowers your overall body temperature, so keeping them cool is key. The Sleep charity recommends putting some socks in the fridge and then wearing them to bed.
Dig out your hot water bottle
A hot water bottle is typically a go-to for freezing winter nights - but it can come in handy in a heatwave too. Rather than hot water, try filling it up with ice cold water and put it in your bed to make a nice cold spot to sleep in.
Try this fan trick
Plenty of us have probably invested in a fan to get some much-needed cool air circulating in the bedroom, but there’s an easy hack you can try out to make your fan even more worthwhile. Putting a tray or bowl of ice in front of the fan will make the air ice cold.
Take a trip into the attic
Heat rises, which unfortunately means that for those in two-storey houses the bedroom, usually on the upper floor, ends up being one of the hottest rooms in the house. But if you have an attic or loft with a hatch, crack this open during the day - this will give the warm air a place to escape.
Stay hydrated
It’s one of the pieces of advice that you hear most when temperatures rise, but it’s easy to forget to drink enough water. The Sleep Charity advises keeping a glass of water by your bed - as well as drinking plenty throughout the day - as your body will feel cooler if you’re hydrated.
