Fitoor: Tabu’s the star of this Katrina Kaif, Aditya film. Here’s proof

Tabu as Begum in Fitoor, Abhishek Kapoor’s adaptation of Great Expectations.

After Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur’s looks from Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor were revealed, it was the turn to meet Tabu who plays a desi Miss Havisham. And she leaves us spellbound, as always!

Tabu has her hair dyed red (exactly like Katrina who is also sporting a red-haired look in the film) and looked regal in Fitoor’s image. She plays Begum and is sure to hold her own in the role which has been played by such accomplished actors like Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Bancroft and Gillian Anderson in the West.

For those who came in late, Miss Havisham is the much-maligned and much-discussed Charles Dickens character from his Great Expectations. She is a wealthy spinster who was jilted at the altar in her youth and never left her house after that day.

Wallowing in her grief, she lives with her niece Estella in faded grandeur and amidst her rotting wedding feast. Miss Havisham manipulates Estella, encouraging her to break the heart of Pip, an impoverished orphan who finds success in his talent.

The film explores love as an energy - free-flowing and not bound by rules. The movie depicts the relationship between three characters: A young Kashmiri boy named Noor (Aditya); his muse Firdaus (Katrina) and the mercurial Begum. It will be shot at various locations in north India, including Kashmir and Delhi, as well as an international destination. Fitoor is an adaptation and there are bound to be changes made to suit Indian sensibilities.

The film earlier starred Rekha in the lead role. However, the veteran actor bowed out of Fitoor. Now, Rekha would have brought an interesting life-like quality to the role. Agree much?
