Fitness fan Davina McCall hits back at skinny-shaming trolls who say she’s ‘too thin’

Davina McCall is well known for her washboard stomach and abs to die for - but this has led to a barrage of abuse from skinny-shaming trolls.

Last year she sparked outrage on social media after uploading an image of her in a bikini, with some saying she is “too thin”.

The former Big Brother presenter, who has released a variety of fitness DVDs over the years, has today hit back, saying it’s “ridiculous” to criticise someone for going to the gym and being healthy.

Davina, 51, said on Good Morning Britain that she “can’t work out too much” and slammed anyone who suggested she was “addicted” to fitness.

She said: “Trying to demonise people who are working out or doing good things with fitness is ridiculous.

“And this idea of talking about being too thin, too fat, ooh look at you, all this judgement - forget it. Let’s not pass judgement on one another, life’s too short.

“I know everybody does it a little bit but I usually think if I’m being judgy about somebody it’s usually saying something about where I’m at rather than them.”

The TV presenter was taking part in a segment about educating children about sun and UV safety when host Kate Garraway brought up the subject of the fitness backlash.

Davina said: “I think that everybody goes to extremes, they always think, oh my goodness, you’re working out too much.

“In my opinion, I honestly can’t work out too much. I’ve got three kids, I’ve got a day job, and I really enjoy going to the gym, I like the community thing of going to a class, I try and go three or four times a week if I’m lucky. In the holidays I will try and go five days a week.

“It makes me feel good and I just think it’s ridiculous saying, ‘oh you can get addicted to fitness’ - that’s just going to put people off. We want to try and get people moving and motivated.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
