
Fitbit services were down for quite some time this morning, and the company acknowledged a "major outage" that's currently listed as having "Functionality back to normal."
This comes following over 2,000 outage reports on Down Detector, and people claiming they are unable to access services on the app. Those reports have dropped precipitously, getting below 500, which is a clear indicator that the outage is over.

Fitbit posted on its status page that "We're experiencing a major outage." At the moment, the company says an "Investigation in progress," so it's in the early phases.
Hopefully, that doesn't mean it'll take too long for it to be fixed so users can get their workouts going again.
A small drop, but still going

We've seen a small drop in reports on Down Detector, indicating that fewer users are jumping on the service to say they're having issues. It doesn't necessarily mean the outage is over, as Fitbit hasn't said anything about a fix coming just yet.

Users on Down Detector are reporting having tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps before realizing that Fitbit as a whole is down.
When something that usually works isn't working, it's always a good idea to see whether there's an outage hitting it before wasting a bunch of time with other steps. When there is an outage, it's out of your control anyway, so all you can do is sit back and wait.
Mobile App and Web API

Fitbit's status pages list the outage as officially affecting its Mobile App and Web API, which are two of the service's more critical aspects. The syncing issue some users experienced early this morning appears to have been resolved; however, without the mobile app and API, many Fitbit functions remain unusable.
A big decline, still down officially

We've seen reports drop to the 900 range on Down Detector, which is a massive decrease from the 2,200 at which it peaked. However, on Fitbit's status page, it still indicates an outage in progress, so it's difficult to say whether Fitbit is being cautious with its reporting that things are fixed or if users are simply not reporting issues as frequently.

That, plus the massive drop in Fitbit reports on Down Detector, leads us to believe that this outage is wrapping up, letting Fitbit users get back to using their favorite fitness trackers without issue.
