Fist-waving driver feels arm of law after unwittingly gesturing at police officer

A gesturing motorist felt the arm of the law after waving his first - at a POLICE OFFICER.

The hapless driver was spotted angrily shaking his fists at other motorway drivers sparking a member of the public to call North West Motorway Police (NWMP).

And in a humorous tweet which prompted some amusing responses on Twitter NWMP confirmed the culprit then inadvertently shook his first at a police officer.

Confirming the incident, NWMP said in the tongue-in-cheek tweet: "NWMPG received a report about a person's driving and shaking his fist........a patrol in a plain vehicle spotted the vehicle and the driver unwittingly shook his fist at the officer oh dear .....the officer stopped the vehicle and made a good fist of warning him about his driving."

It is not clear exactly how the police dealt with the driver.

But the tweet, favourited more than 50 times, prompted some witty responses including a reference to Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury.

Another Twitter user said: "That’s something I’d do ha ha not an offence to shake the fist is it?"

Well actually it is.

Under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 people can be fined 75% of their weekly salary, at a maximum of £1,000 if their rude gesture is deemed 'disorderly conduct'.

Drivers could also be punished if the rude act is classed as 'not being fully in control of a vehicle'.

Quips in response included: "Lucky he didn't get a-wrist-ed.'
