Fishponds 'gunpoint' robbery sees armed police deployed after woman opens door

A woman was reportedly robbed at gunpoint after opening her door to two men in Fishponds.

Police confirmed that armed officers were deployed to Rosedale Road yesterday (Wednesday, November 24) after reports of "weapons" spotted during a burglary.

Although the suspects have not yet been caught, officers have sought to reassure others that they believe the incident was isolated and there is "no threat to the wider public".

A woman who said she was a neighbour of the victim shared a warning on a public Facebook page, which has been shared by more than 1,700 times.

She wrote on the Spotted in Fishponds and Hillfields page: "Please make sure u know who is at ur door before ur answer as my neighbour just opened the door and 2 men were stood there and held her at gun point and robbed her house.

"Police are present and looking for them please be aware."

Rosedale Road is a residential road situated on the Hillfields estate,

Avon and Somerset Police did not specifically mention a gun, but did confirm that "weapons" were reportedly involved.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We’re investigating following a burglary at a residential address in the Rosedale Road area of Fishponds which happened yesterday (Wednesday 24 November) at around 11am.

"Armed officers were deployed to the location due to reports of weapons being present.

"A tour of the area proved negative and enquiries to locate two male suspects are ongoing. Police believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the wider public.

"The victims are being offered safeguarding support."
