A woman shares the scary moment a man cornered them on a fishing dock after emerging from the nearby woods.
In a video with over 25.3 million views, TikToker Halie Lacy (@halslacy) and her friend set up their fishing gear at the end of a dock in Austin, Texas. A man sings loudly in the background, as Lacy looks up nervously.
“Fishing was the plan… until an aggressive man from the woods came out of nowhere,” she writes on the on-screen text.
What did the man say to them at the fishing dock?
The women continue to tie and cast their lines. They frequently look behind them as the man who they say suddenly emerged from the woods becomes more agitated.
On-screen text reads, “He found a branch and started swinging it around. He was blocking our only exit & kept getting closer to us. Our only option is the lake.”
In the background, the man says, “Jump in there with the little alligators. Open up your wrist and dive on in.” He continues to cuss and threaten to throw objects at the women.
Lacy’s friend calls her boyfriend to come to the dock. They say the man threatened to throw them in the lake. At the end of the video, her friend’s boyfriend meets them at the end of the dock.
How did other women react to the situation?
In the comments, other women say the scenario is all too familiar.
“Those moments where you have to make a quick calculation to figure out if it’s safer to stand up for yourself or endure. Absolutely the worst. Woman have trained their whole lives to put up with some horrible situations and people just so they don’t risk making things worse,” one writes.
Lacy responds, “Right?!!?! That split-second math you’re forced to do ‘Do I speak up or just get through this without making it worse?’ is a survival skill no one should have to master, yet most women have been conditioned to run it on autopilot their whole lives.”
“There is no way to describe the difference kinda fear you get when a scary man is near you,” another says.
Lacy clarifies in a comment that they continued their fishing in a different spot after the scary encounter.
In a follow-up video, she laments that she wanted to do something “fun and innocent,” only for the vibes to change quickly when the man came out of the woods.
“I don’t want that interaction to deter anyone from living their life. But I think it’s a good reminder that that is reality. It’s incredibly important to be prepared and stay safe,” she says.
