Fishing vessel carrying crew of 11 takes on water before bursting into flames off Cork coast

A fishing vessel was reported to be in difficulty around 60 miles South West of Mizen Head, Co. Cork, on Wednesday.

The vessel with a crew of 11 on board is believed to have been taking on water and had lost propulsion.

Valentia Coast Guard is coordinating assistance to the boat, and R115 is on the scene.

In a statement on Twitter, the Irish Coast Guard said: “Valentia Coast Guard is coordinating assistance to a fishing vessel reported to be in difficulty approximately 60 miles South West of Mizen Head, Co Cork. The vessel has a crew of eleven, is reported to be taking on water, and has lost propulsion. R115 is on scene.”

The crew abandoned the vessel, and all members are safely on board another fishing vessel.

The casualty vessel has now caught fire.

The Irish Coast Guard said: “ R115 and Air Corps Casa on scene. Valentia CG coordinating”.
