Fishing-net factory hit by fire

SAMUT PRAKAN: A fire broke out at a factory producing fishing nets, thread, ropes and other synthetic products in Phra Pradaeng district on Sunday morning, causing some damage but no deaths or injuries, police said.

Pol Lt Col Sayan Phuphanna, a Phra Pradaeng police investigator, said the factory of Siam Brothers Company where the fire took place is located on a 10-rai plot in tambon Bang Khru. About 30 fire engines from nearby municipalities were called to combat the fire.

The factory houses about 50 machines for producing fishing nets, thread, ropes and other synthetic products.

Somsak Jaipakdi, 52, a foreman, said about 50 workers were in the factory when the fire broke out from a net weaving machine and spread quickly. He and other workers tried to douse the fire with extinguishers but were not able to stop the fire, prompting him to call for help.

The fire was put under control after about an hour.

Forensic police were investigating the cause of the fire. The damage was being assessed.
