Fisherman who was pulled from water at Louth harbour dies overnight

A fisherman who got into difficulty off the coast of a harbour on the Irish Sea has died overnight.

On Thursday, at approximately 4pm Gardaí from Ardee Station attended at Annagassan Harbour.

It was after a call was made to them when a man in his 70s was discovered in the water unresponsive.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics and removed to hospital where his condition was described as critical.

He was pronounced dead at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda in the early hors of Friday morning. The local Coroner has since been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of Garda investigations.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.
