Fisherman’s lost catch chased by shark just feet away

Brendan Coudal was fly-fishing along Nokomis Beach in Sarasota, Fla., recently when he hooked a tarpon. Little did he know that moments later he would shoot a video of a lifetime.

The tarpon wound up throwing the hook and then being chased to shore by a hammerhead shark, and it unfolded right at Coudal’s feet as he recorded it.

“By the time I could grab my phone to video, the best of the show was over,” Coudal told ViralHog, which posted the video Wednesday.

Hard to image there might have been even better footage as Coudal was just feet away from the chase scene, which ended with the prey and predator going their separate ways.

“Luckily, the tarpon exited to the north and the shark wandered off to the south,”Coudal told ViralHog. “This isn’t something you see every day.”

In Florida, hammerhead sharks commonly follow the migrations of tarpon and stingrays and are often chasing them down for a meal. But catching them on video like this is extraordinary.
