Fisherman rushed to hospital after catching a hook in his eye

A fisherman was rushed to hospital after catching a hook in his eye.

Emergency services rushed to the man at a farm near Fowey, Cornwall, yesterday afternoon.

The fisherman managed to make his way up from the coast to a nearby farm, Cornwall Live reports.

Volunteers from two coastguard teams arrived at the scene first where they helped ease the man of pain.

South Western Ambulance service confirmed that its crews has also attended.

He was "taken swiftly" to hospital, the coastguard said, but his condition is not known.

A statement on the St Austell Coastguard Facebook page said: “The team were called today to the reports of an injured fisherman at Polridmouth Cove, Polridmouth with a hook in his eye.

“The team proceeded to the scene along with Polruan Coastguard and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

“Once on scene we found the casualty had a managed to get to Menabilly Barton Farm, Menabilly, where our volunteer team members used their casualty care medical skills, to stabilise the casualty until the ambulance arrived.

“The casualty was taken swiftly to hospital.”

The coastguard team went on to wish the fisherman a speedy recovery.
