Fisherman rescued after falling into the harbour at Seaton Sluice

A fisherman had to be rescued after falling into a harbour in Northumberland.

Emergency services including the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and the Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team were called to Seaton Sluice just after 8pm on Saturday evening.

As they arrived on scene, the casualty was being pulled out of the water by another fisherman.

Crews from the Blyth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat helped retrieve some of the man's equipment from the water.

The fisherman had a lucky escape and did not suffer any serious injuries and was dropped off back at home.

A spokesman for the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade said: "The man was assessed by Blyth Coastguard, but as his injuries were believed to only be very minor, he was placed in their vehicle to help warm him up before being given a lift back to his home.

"All rescue units were stood down around 8.45pm."
