Fisherman bitten by shark off Queensland coast

A man is in a stable condition in hospital after being bitten by a shark in waters off Yeppoon, in central Queensland, authorities say.

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) said the man aged in his 50s was injured yesterday and was brought to shore on a boat about 6:15am to paramedics waiting at Rosslyn Bay Harbour near Yeppoon.

Paramedics said the man was wounded on the shoulder.

The man is in a stable condition and has been taken to Rockhampton hospital.

QAS Rockhampton operations supervisor Brad Miers said the man was bitten at Swain Reefs around 5:00pm on Monday.

"We had a good chat to the gentlemen and he stated that he caught a large reef shark [and] as he went to pull it on board it turned and bit him on the upper arm," he said.

"Despite a large wound to his upper arm, he is in a remarkable condition — very joyful."
