Siamese fighting fish, a gorgeous, tiny fish with vibrantly coloured and wavering tails, is the subject matter for "The Tail Stories", which is running at River City Bangkok's Room 254, Charoen Krung 24, until Sept 12.
This is a photography exhibition by Patchara Aunsangchan who has been fascinated by the colours and movements of this aquatic animal, also known as betta. Viewers will get immersed into a multidimensional story of the fish whose appearances seem to be delicate and vulnerable but its fighter mentality has led to the fish-fighting game for centuries.
The photographer devoted years to capturing the action and emotion of the fish through his lens. In his unique working approach, he spent days and nights with the fish until they became acquainted with him and disclosed their true nature to him.
His photos of betta were chosen by Thailand Post as a stamp collection. They also were featured in a photography book titled Siamese Fighting Fish: The National Aquatic Animal published by the Department of Fisheries. The images had also inspired designs of gorgeous scarves.
