Overall rating: 4.5/5 with 122 reviews

Food: 4.5/5

Service:4.5/5

Value:4/5

One happy customer said: "Absolutely Outstanding!!! Thoroughly enjoyed the fish & chips x Lovely. Will definitely be back again."

Another added: "Beautiful cod and chips tonight whilst on holiday & the first I’ve had for 18+ months Well worth the wait & our wee muttie really appreciated the sausage!! The food was spot on, freshly cooked & hot. Perfect Plus - really nice people. Happy days."

Someone who didn't enjoy their food said: "Don't know what has happened to what used to be a great chip shop, but am furious over the standard of food that I've received tonight. STONE COLD after 5 minute drive home!."

Another added: "Visited on good Friday which was busy, however they didn’t have enough food for all our order. The staff were friendly but they should of waited until more food was cooked ready for our order. They started wrapping ours and we had to wait for remaining food so what we were given first was cold by the time of our short walk home." You can read more stories about Swansea here.

Romas Fish Bar Townhill, 126 Townhill Road, Cockett, Swansea, SA2 0UU

Overall rating: 4.5/5 with 50 reviews

Food: 4.5/5

Service:4.5/5

Value:4/5

Someone who loved their chips said: "Sorry but this is the best Roma in wales. I work less than 50yds up the road so it's so easy to call in. I've tried Gorseinon etc but they are nothing compared to Townhill. The staff are professional and polite and covid procedures are spot on. Thank you all for your service during this terrible time, you have kept many key workers like myself fed and looked after."

Another added: "Fish and chips last night were superb quality. Service is excellent, always with a smile. Fresh food worth the wait. Thanks again for our Friday night treat!"

An unhappy customer said: "My husband picked up food from Roma and we were not impressed at all the chips could have done with another few minutes cooking as they were hard and the rissoles were terrible all squashed up and fell to bits when taken out of the wrapper."

Another added: "After waiting for a long time for this fish bar to open what a disappointment, highly overrated, go to Mayhill fish bar for quality food."

Colwyn Fish Bar, 135-137 Colwyn Avenue, Winch Wen, Swansea SA1 7EW

Overall rating: 4.5/ 5 with 14 reviews

There aren't enough food, service, value or atmosphere ratings for Colwyn Fish Bar.

One customer said: "Best chippy ever! Value and service second to none. My family have been going there for years. Never fails to deliver!"

Another added: "If you enjoy good quality traditional fish and chips this is the place to go. Always excellent, high standards, good range of food available and the owners are always really helpful and keen to ensure you get exactly what you want. They even go the extra mile to help! If you're visiting Swansea, it's worth seeking this one out! Used by my family countless times and will continue to be a firm favourite!"

This customer loved the chips but wasn't impressed with the staff, they said: "You get LOADS of chips, so really get your money's worth! However, ordered 2 children's meals and didn't get the drink and toy that's advertised. Finally, staff look the most depressed, unhappy fish and chip employees I have ever seen!"

Few can resist a good chippy (Newcastle Chronicle)

Copperfish Bar & Takeaway, Mumbles Pier, Mumbles Road, Mumbles, Swansea SA3 4EN

Overall rating: 4/5 with 252 reviews.

Food: 4.5/5

Service:4/5

Value:4/5

This customer says this is the best chippy in Wales! They said: "Best fish and chips in Wales. Brilliant menu. Family friendly. Cool staff. Attractive fish tank. And excellent local beers. If you're in Mumbles, this is the place to come!"

Another added: "My husband and I enjoyed a lovely day shopping at Swansea and exploring the Mumbles. We visited Mumbles Hill and enjoyed a stroll along the promenade. Finally we visited the Copperfish restaurant on the pier for fish and chips.

"The restaurant was tastefully decorated and immaculate We received a very warm welcome and there was an extensive menu including 2 courses for £10.95. We had already decided to order fish and chips with mushy peas and a side of bread and butter. The food was nicely presented and tasted amazing. Our visit was great value for money and was perfect."

This customer wouldn't agree though that it's the best chippy in Wales, they said: "This is a popular place with an excellent location right on the Mumbles pier. You can walk the scenic route or park at the top of the hill. It’s always busy and the staff are nice. But sadly the fish and chips are just not that tasty, I added loads of salt and vinegar to turn up the volume but it was still underwhelming. Will try another place next time."

Another added: "Visited here with our granddaughter at 5 o'clock on Friday night. We waited a half hour for waitress to come to order our food then another hour for it to come. I had to ask for my granddaughter's food because she was hungry.- Ours came 15mins later. Pie like a brick. Fish soggy. Won't be eating here again. Toilets absolutely awful. Expected more for the prices they charge."

Captain's Table, Port Eynon, Swansea SA3 1NN

Overall rating: 4/5 with 158 reviews

Food:4/5

Service:4/5

Value:4/5

Atmosphere:4/5

An 'excellent' review says: "We found this place by chance when visiting Port Eynon and we're really glad we did. The fish was so tasty and the chips were perfect. Not dry, almost crunchy or chewy like in some places, but nicely sorted and also really tasty. It felt like proper holiday to walk along the beach then to sit outside eating fish and chips!"

Another added: "Fabulous chip shop with lovely staff. The chips were great and there’s a good menu for vegetarians. Highly recommended, we will definitely return."

A 'poor' review said: "It was just ok, nothing special at all. Batter was very soggy and greasy, portion size awful, very small for the price they charge. Won't be going back again."

Another added: "The food quality was okay, nothing special, but I paid for a large cod and chips and what I got was a very average standard portion. My local chippie offers a senior special, for which I now qualify, and that's significantly more food for a fiver than was served here for over £8. Poor value for money so cannot recommend."

This customer left a 'poor' review and said: "Food was average, soggy batter. Nothing to shout home about. Staff were arrogant. Wouldn’t be stopping by again."

Another added: "Ordered fish and chips (large) cost £6.20p, good size portion of chips but fish not so large. Food was served piping hot after a ten minute wait. Quality was average but nonetheless not the worst takeaway I've ever had."

Another added: "I think this might be the best fish/pie/sausage and chips I’ve ever had. Lovely dry well cooked chips, great tasting gravy. If it was my local I’d be 10stone heavier!!"

A customer who left a 'poor' review said: "Went back here after a while and extremely dissatisfied, chips were soggy and tasteless however chicken curry was poor, small chunks of heated frozen chicken cubes, awful, shameful to serve this, went straight in the bin after a few fork fulls. Recommend to stay away."

Another added: "Called in on my annual mumbles 10 mile walk. Nice staff but food is slightly over priced. Don't mind if it were fresh but we had old chips. brown and soaked though. If the new owners can sort this out I will give it another try."

This customer wasn't happy with the prices here and said: "Well organised, clean and tidy, quality food, but sky high prices especially on the special cod ..hot curry sauce bright red and nice but the price for 2 takeaway meals was nearly as much as a sit down meal."

Another added: "Cod and chips for three take away. We had the batter-less fish which was well cooked. I'm not a lover of batter so it suited me. The food wasn't greasy, it was fairly small portions and £22 for the three of us. Pleased we tried it but won't be going back."

Roma Fish Bar/Morriston, 38 Woodfield Street, Morriston, Swansea SA6 8AB

There was a very friendly young woman who served me, I didn’t catch her name, she must have only been 16 or 17 but what a pleasant, friendly and efficient young woman she was. I placed a large order and she got everything right, I will definitely be returning."

Another added: "I came in and placed a large order, the staff were very friendly and patient. There's a young girl working there who is always happy to help and willing to have a chat. Excellent staff but food not as good as Roma Gorseinon, fish of poor quality and can't describe the chips."

A customer who said they won't be returning said: "Yesterday we went to the Roma chippy in Woodfield Street in Morriston for a takeaway ,the service was very good and shop was spotlessly clean but the food was not up to the usual Roma chain of fish and chippys standard we would not visit here again in a hurry."

Another added: "Good food but highly expensive!! If they bring prices down I'd go back, paying nearly 6 quid for fish and chips."

A very unhappy customer said: "My husband has been in the fish and chip trade for 25 years, so was really looking forward to enjoying our evening meal. It was disgusting!! We threw it all away!! My sausage in batter, was pink! Didn’t look cooked, the batter was stodgy!. My Husband order a steak pie, the pastry was hard, inedible! Far too many tasteless chips.!!"

Another added: "On the Gower on holiday, decided to have fish and chips for a treat - that was a mistake. The fish looked cooked but when it came to eating it the batter was brown on the outside but was uncooked all the way through and the fish was watery. The chips were ok-ish and it was not cheap."

An unhappy customer said: "Visited today and as with previous reviews. Chips seemed to have been reheated and were luke warm and very small quantity for the price and the sausage was undercooked, luckily it was for the dog."

Another added: "We went to Yallops only because the queues were too long elsewhere. When we got home my husband complained that his fish was small, it was, it was tiny. There weren’t that many chips and they weren’t great. My pie was not as good as other chip shop pies and I had quite a few chips with black eyes which I discarded."

The Range Fish & Chip Shop, 93 Eversley Road, Swansea SA2 9DE

Another said: "Ignoring all the moans, this place is one of the best for fish and chips in South Wales. I have been here many times over the years and never fail to be impressed by the courtesy of the staff and the quality of the food. Today we all had cod (and it was cod) with chips and some accessories. Splendidly cooked and a pleasure to eat."

This customer left a 'poor' review and said: "Second time I been, (thought last week might of been just a day). Asked for cod and chips once again not Cod. Chips are ok, lots of them, but if you're paying for cod, cod you should get."

Another added: "Absolutely love the chips here, best in Swansea, that I've found. The fish was nice but the batter was a bit thick and so was chewy rather than crispy. Also, for the price the portions are very small."
