Fischer backs Trump after calling on him to step aside

Nebraska Sen. Deb Fischer said in a radio interview Tuesday that she would still support GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, after calling on him to step aside as the party's nominee on Saturday.

"Like most Nebraskans I am fully committed to defeating Hillary Clinton," Fischer told KLIN. "I support the Republican ticket and I plan to vote for Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence on Nov. 8."

Fischer was one of a number of Republican lawmakers who called on Trump to step aside after footage surfaced last week of Trump using graphic terms in 2005 to describe his sexual advances towards women, including grabbing women's genitals.

Fischer called Trump's comments in the video "disgusting" and "unacceptable," but said she would respect Trump's decision to remain in the race.

"I never said I was not voting for our Republican ticket," Fischer said Tuesday.

"We all know there is a lot at stake from the Supreme Court to our conservative positions that we take on a number of issues whether it's immigration or taxes or our Second Amendment rights with regards to regulations and we need to make sure that we support the Republican ticket," Fischer said. "And I've said that from the beginning here and I continue to support the Republican ticket."

"I did say Mr. Trump, you know, it would be wise for him to step aside and allow Mike Pence to serve as our party's nominee," Fischer continued. "And he decided he was not stepping aside. I respect his decision and I support the Republican ticket and that's a Trump-Pence ticket."

Fischer said she would not continue to call for Trump to step aside as he has made his decision to remain the GOP nominee.
