Firuza Sharipova reveals secret weapon ahead of Katie Taylor clash

Katie Taylor's next Mandatory Challenger Firuza Sharipova believes she will have a secret weapon with her in the ring as she looks to defy the odds and beat the Bray boxer next weekend in Liverpool.

WBA Mandatory Challenger Sharipova (14-1, 8 KOs) is a rank outsider coming into the fight but will come thoroughly prepared thanks to her training partner - Katie Taylor's greatest amateur foe, Sofya Ochigava.

Ochigava is one of a select few boxers to have ever beaten Taylor and the Russian is now climbing the ladder in the pro ranks.

Ochigava and Taylor did battle in 2012's Olympic final in London where Taylor edged the Russian - an outcome Ochigava has continued to dispute since.

Ochigava is now edging closer to a Super-Featherweight title fight and has been training with Sharipova, who believes that the insight gained from training alongside the Russian could stand to her against Taylor.

She said: "I am eight years younger than Katie Taylor, I am stronger than her and Sofya Ochigava helped me to prepare for this fight.

"No one else knows how to fight Taylor like Sofya Ochigava.

"Therefore, not only I, Firuza Sharipova, will be in the ring against Taylor, but the intelligence of Sofya Ochigava, who has prepared me very well for this fight, will be with me.

Sharipova also contended that the judges helped Taylor to her Olympic final win over Ochigava.

She continued: "Sofya has been in my camp from the very beginning, has passed on all her knowledge to me and has done her best to help me defeat Katie Taylor.

"I watched their fight in the final of the Olympic Games and I’m sure that the judges helped Taylor. Sofya knocked her down, which wasn't counted.

"Sofya was better in the fight, she won it.

"Taylor is usually not afraid of anyone, but in that final fight, Sophia saw fear in her eyes. Even now, Taylor refuses to fight Sofya."
