First Tottenham players react to Thomas Frank sacking

Tottenham players have begun reacting to the sacking of manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs confirmed on Wednesday morning that Frank had been relieved of his duties, 12 hours after a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle saw the club drop to within five points of the Premier League relegation zone.

Frank departs after eight underwhelming months in charge, which started with a narrow loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Super Cup and a thumping Premier League win over Burnley, but ended with just two wins in 17 top-flight games and without a victory since the turn of the year.

Pedro Porro and Joao Palhinha were the first - and, at the time of writing, only - players to break their silence on the sacking.

Porro, part of Frank’s leadership team, posted: “Thank you very much and all the best for your career boss! A pleasure.”

Palhinha, who was signed on loan by Frank last summer, posted: “Thank you for everything coach!”

Spurs now find themselves in a relegation battle as they search for a replacement for Frank.

Roberto De Zerbi, who quit Marseille hours before Frank was dismissed by Spurs, is the early favourite with the bookmakers to replace Frank, with Mauricio Pochettino - long linked with a return to Spurs - in charge of the USA ahead of the summer World Cup.
