Good morning. Donald Trump said talks with Iran would happen on Monday but declined to set a deadline for an agreement, after earlier saying he had called off an imminent attack. For its part, Iran said it was nearing a deal with Oman over a new route through the strait of Hormuz, and it had no plans to receive a delegation or send an Iranian one to any talks.
On Saturday night, Trump claimed on social media that Iran and other Middle Eastern countries had asked for time to complete a deal that would lead to “the immediate, complete and total” reopening of the strait and “an end to Iran’s nuclear threat”. He added that Tehran must “rapidly make a deal”.

What has Iran said about the strait? The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, told state television on Sunday that a deal was close with Oman over a new route through the waterway. “We are now going to reach an understanding on a route acceptable to both sides – neither the northern route nor the southern route – but one that respects the sovereign rights of both sides and safeguards our national interests and security,” he said in an interview.

Robert F Kennedy Jr, the US health secretary, on Sunday told American parents that they should get their children vaccinated against measles, as the surge in infections has reached numbers not seen in the past 35 years.
Kennedy, a leading vaccination skeptic who has spent years amplifying misinformation about vaccines, including the shot that protects against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), made his call in the course of a contentious interview with CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday morning.

His remark came as the incidence of measles crossed a milestone – the US has officially recorded 2,371 confirmed infections so far this year, surpassing the total tally in 2025 of 2,289. Taken together, in the past two years there have been more measles infections in the US than in the rest of the 21st century combined. The last time a greater number of measles cases was recorded in a single year was in 1991.
Republican calls for Max Miller to resign from Congress after abuse allegations
The Republican senator Bernie Moreno on Sunday publicly called for Representative Max Miller, his former son-in-law, to step down from Congress amid allegations of domestic and child abuse. As recently as Friday, the Ohio senator had avoided giving his opinion directly on accusations made by his daughter Emily Moreno against the congressman.
The senator’s statement came hours after Miller gave a live stream Sunday morning denying allegations of domestic and child abuse and insisting he would remain in the race for re-election. The public appearance came before Wednesday’s deadline to replace him on the ballot. “Just want to be clear: no court, no agency has ever substantiated any allegation of abuse against me. No criminal charge has ever been filed against me,” Miller said on the live stream.
Family to sue after woman released from ICE custody froze to death
The family of a Haitian immigrant who froze to death in early March at a bus shelter in Pittsburgh after she was dropped off in the city by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is poised to file a lawsuit this month against the US and “multiple other governmental and non-governmental entities”, the Guardian has learned.
Daphy Michel, 31, had been in county jail for six months after a reported mental health crisis and street incident, and then was arrested by ICE before being released with an ankle monitor.
