Edinburgh weather: First snow arrives in city as images show areas hit with winter showers

So there we have it. The first snow of the winter has officially hit Edinburgh.

Many people across the city woke up this morning to the sight of a dusting on the streets outside. And there's a very good change those having to venture out this morning will have had the windscreen scraper handy.

The team at Edinburgh Live can vouch for there being snow showers in Leith and the south of the city.

Author Ian Rankin shared a photo which shows a dusting of snow in The Meadows.

Yellow weather warnings had been in place on Wednesday with Edinburgh and the Lothians braced for winter showers and freezing temperatures.

The Met Office said that roads and railways could be affected, leading to some travel delays in parts.

People are also being warned to be careful against injuring themselves by slipping on icy patches and untreated roads and pavements.

Did you wake to snow outside your window this morning? We'd love to see your pictures. Email them in to news@edinburghlive.co.uk.
