First Shreddies came up with fart-filtering pants - now they've launched the flatulence absorbing duvet cover

The creators of fart filtering pants have come up with a new application - the fart-filtering bed sheet.

The team behind Shreddies, which have sold hundreds of thousands of pairs of pants, have now launched a flatulence filtering carbon undersheet and a flatulence filtering duvet cover.

Both products use the same technology found in the underwear, a highly porous carbon which adsorbs and traps flatulence odours and is reactivated when washed.

It follows the launch of other spin-off products including patented undershorts, pyjamas and jeans and the flatulence cushion.

The range was the idea of entrepreneur Paul O’Leary , who came up with the Leicestershire-made fart pants after suffering his own problems with indigestion.

Paul, who owns designer kitchen company deVOL, has always been proud of the small part he has had in making people’s lives easier with his flatulence filtration products.

He founded Shreddies in 2009 and the pants and other products are made at Cotes Mill, the historic home of deVOL, which stands on the banks of the River Soar, just north of Loughborough.

His products have previously made global headlines for their quirky branding and Shreddies has eight staff and distributors in more than 20 countries.

Shreddies assistant manager Rebecca Jones said the average person passes gas 14-20 times a day and many people experience excessive flatulence at night, because when you lie down the gas in your body ‘pools’ inside you rather than coming out a little at a time.

She said: “We know from speaking to our customers that bad flatulence at night can drive spouses from their marital bed so our new range of jeans, cushions and bags. Shreddies pride themselves on being able to provide discreet, life changing products to customers all over the world.”

She said the carbon undersheet fits under a normal fitted sheet and features a carbon panel with lightweight cotton ends that neatly tuck under your mattress, allowing people to position the carbon wherever it is needed.

The flatulence filtering duvet cover includes an in-built carbon panel to trap gases before they escape through the duvet.

Ms Jones said: “Both products are being made at Cotes Mill, Loughborough along with the rest of our underwear range.

“We've got the capacity to make as many as needed, so this will be a stock item rather than a limited edition.

“For now the bedding range is only available via our website, but we're hoping this changes to have them in additional stores within the next few months.”

The undersheet is priced between £110 and £125 and the duvet cover costs between £180 and £200. Both are available in double, king and super king sizes.
