First set of celebrity chefs announced for Seaham's Food Festival

Durham County Council has announced its first three celebrity chefs who will be appearing at the annual Seaham Food Festival in August.

Among the star studded line up is a Saturday Kitchen star, as well as a well-known TV judge who will appear at the popular seaside festival which commences on Saturday, August 6.

The two day event will bring a number of exciting street food vendors together in a weekend of family fun, with entertainment and live music also landing on the County Durham coast.

The festival will also play host to its signature open air cookery theatre, where a number of famous faces will provide mouth-watering cook-alongs and demonstrations throughout the festival.

And the council have recently announced a couple of familiar faces who will be taking part in the proceedings this year, including Saturday Kitchen presenter Matt Tebbutt, TV judge Cherish Finden and BBC favourite Chris Bavin.

The festival is a big hit in County Durham (Durham County Council)

Matt Tebbutt gained his chef's diploma at Leiths School of Food and Wine in London before working under Marco Pierre White and Alistair Little, and eventually opening up his own restaurant in South Wales. He currently presents on BBC One's Saturday Kitchen, BBC Two's Best Bites, and Food Unwrapped on Channel 4.

Cherish Finden is known for her feisty persona and critical eye on Channel 4's Bake Off: The Professionals - through her own experience as a multi-award-winning pastry chef. She has also appeared on Celebrity MasterChef as a patient and caring mentor.

Finally, Chris Bavin will be welcomed back to the festival as the cookery theatre's host, where he will introduce chefs throughout the course of the weekend. Co-presenter of BBC One's popular series Eat Well for Less? with Jordan Banjo, he has also worked with the renowned Mary Berry in the past as well as presenting various foodie shows on national television.

Durham County Council cabinet Member for economy and partnerships, Coun Elizabeth Scott, said: "With just ten weeks to go until Seaham Food Festival returns, we are delighted to announce the first of our celebrity chefs who are ready to inspire and entertain audiences with their first-class cookery skills.

"This festival is a key part of our events calendar and something we know hundreds of people look forward to every year. It's popular events like this that support the county's current bid to become UK City of Culture 2025, showing just how important food is to culture and bringing people together."
