First ride arrives at the Hoppings - but there are still two weeks to go until funfair opens

It's that time of year again: The Hoppings is coming to town.

For generations the travelling fun fair has set up on Newcastle's Town Moor every summer, for a week of thrill rides, candy floss and carnival games.

In recent years, once of the scariest rides has been the Mach 5 - AKA - The Bomber, a white knuckle favourite which shoots passengers around at 80 mph, achieving G4 force.

The Mach 5 is back this year - and is already parked up on the Town Moor . The ride was spotted yesterday, although it is a long way from being built.

When it is finished, the Mach 5/Bomber will look like this.

If replicating a ride in an air force jet isn't your idea of fun, there will be some tamer rides at this year's fair - suitable for all ages and heart rates - although thrill-seekers will be well covered too, with the Exciter and Ice Jet both confirmed.

You can read about our favourite Hoppings thrill rides here .

The Hoppings opens on Friday June 21. The fair's final night will be Saturday, June 29.

Entry is free, but admission fees apply to the rides and attractions.
