First residents set to move into multi-million pound Blantyre Care Campus

The first residents will be welcomed into all-new technology enabled homes at the Blantyre Care Campus in the coming weeks.

The ambitious multi-million pound development will deliver a 20-bed transitional care hub – with community facilities – and 20 new technology enabled properties, all equipped with state-of-the-art telecare systems to support independent living.

On the same site, there is a further development of 25 new council homes creating new social housing at the centre of Blantyre.

And now, the project which will pioneer a new approach to care in South Lanarkshire has reached a key milestone. For the search is on for the right person to take charge of the Care Campus as operational campus manager.

South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership and South Lanarkshire Council have been taking forward the development that is aimed at enabling people to live longer and have a better quality of life in their own homes.

Soumen Sengupta, director of health and social care for South Lanarkshire told Lanarkshire Live : "This is a particularly exciting time for the project as we look forward to welcoming the first residents into their new technology enabled homes in the coming weeks.

“This development is about far more than bricks-and-mortar though – it’s about how we further develop fit-for-the-future services that support people to live well, live safely, and live independently at home.

“That is why we are especially enthusiastic about the community facing element of the care hub, as it will feature a Technology Enabled Care (TEC) zone designed in collaboration with the Glasgow Science Centre.

“We are looking for an exceptional individual to take a lead role in this new development, to help us reshape the delivery of health and social care services across South Lanarkshire."

The Care Campus manager post is being advertised on the My Job Scotland recruitment site.

Applicants should have one of the following qualifications: A degree in Social Work and/or equivalent in Health and Social Care; Registered Managers Award or equivalent; Professional Nursing, Education or Youth and Community Work Qualification; They will also be registered with Scottish Social Services Council, National Midwifery Council or an alternative professional body.

The Care Campus Operational Manager will work alongside the Registered Manager (Team Leader) to oversee this new and exciting operation.

The Campus will serve the wider Hamilton area and replaces Larkhall’s McWhirter House and Blantyre’s Kirkton House – whose older design made them ill-suited to support modern care and accessibility standards.
