A South Lanarkshire councillor has tested positive for coronavirus.
Details emerged of the first positive Covid test for a councillor in the region at yesterday's (Wednesday, September 23) executive committee meeting.
The unnamed councillor is now self-isolating and test and protect protocols have been initiated.
SLC chief executive Cleland Sneddon updated councillors on the developments at the beginning of the meeting.
He said: "We have been informed that a member of the council has received a positive Covid test.
"It is unfortunate and our thoughts are with the individual."
Mr Sneddon added that the councillor will be interviewed by NHS Scotland's Test and Protect service and any close contacts will be identified and asked to self-isolate for 14 days.
A close contact is someone who has been within 2m of a person for at least 15 minutes.
Council leader John Ross added: "I would also like to extend my best wishes to the individual."
Most councillors did not physically attend the hybrid executive committee or full council meetings yesterday and instead joined remotely via Microsoft Teams.
