First PlayStation 5 photos show just how big Sony's 2020 console truly is

It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated gaming consoles of the year, and now there’s only a matter of weeks to wait before the launch of the PlayStation 5.

Sony gave fans the first glimpse at the console back in June, but now the first real-life images of the console have been revealed.

The images appeared at Taiwan’s National Communications Commission, and show the PS5 laying horizontally.

While Sony announced the console’s official measurements as 390mm height, 260mm deep and 104mm, in reality the images suggest that it’s much bigger.

This is thanks to the console’s chunky base plate, which it is recommended you use to keep the console stable.

Worryingly, this could make it tricky for gamers to fit the PlayStation 5 into their entertainment units.

The images come shortly after Sony announced the release date and price for the PS5.

The official release date is November 12, with fans in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand South Korea able to get their hands on the console on that date.

However, it’s not good news for British PlayStation fans, who will have to wait another week to buy the PS5.

The official UK release date is November 19.

In terms of pricing, the PlayStation 5 is priced at £449.99/ $499.99 / AU$749.95, and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is slightly cheaper at $399.99 / £359.99 / AU$749.95.
