First planned work on massive Peddimore project revealed

Proposals for the first two buildings at the Peddimore industrial regeneration in north Birmingham have been unveiled.

IM Properties, in partnership with landowner Birmingham City Council, is leading the scheme in Minworth and said it was in advanced negotiations with a prospective occupier which would create more than 1,000 full-time jobs.

A second building, to be located at the gateway into the site, could accommodate either manufacturing or logistics businesses and has the potential to create a further 470 full-time jobs.

A public consultation has now been launched for these first two buildings.

The proposed project, on 175 acres of land next to the A38 and Peddimore Lane, has the potential to create up to 6,500 jobs and support a further 3,000 in the associated supply chain.

Planning consent was awarded in summer 2019 for an outline masterplan with all matters reserved and a second full application covering new roundabout access from the A38, roads, cycle and pedestrian paths and other works to serve the site.

The park will be constructed across four separate development zones which are expected to total around 2.6 million sq ft of commercial floorspace.

These two new buildings will be located within development zone one with planning applications due to be lodged in the coming months following completion of the public consultation.

David Smith, planning director at IM Properties said: "Having a major prospective occupier for the first building will help accelerate delivery of the site and put it on the map.

"We consider this especially significant because of the challenges of covid-19 and the critical importance of attracting investment, creating jobs and supporting the economic and social recovery of the region.

"We believe that Peddimore must deliver benefits beyond its site boundaries - it must deliver a social return on investment and create a positive legacy for years to come.

"We have already made positive progress in supporting and funding community projects and significant preparatory work is being put in place to ensure the project can realise its employment and skills commitments."

The consultation runs until March 7.
