First pictures show people are having an amazing time at Boomtown 2019

Anyone who has been to Boomtown Festival will tell you just how incredible it is.

The annual extravaganza, which is organised in Bristol but takes place at Hampshire's Matterley Estate, is one of the most visually-staggering and creative music festivals on the planet.

Since making its debut in 2009, the event has grown massively and combines a diverse lineup with a twisting storyline which develops every year, unfolding before the eyes of bewildered attendees.

Each chapter in the tale has seen the addition of new characters and stages, including Banghai Palace and Sector 6, which both need to be seen in the flesh to be believed.

This year's blowout is now underway and will attract around 66,000 people from far and wide, including many from Bristol, who are keen to get in on the action.

If you're one of the many who sadly didn't get a ticket to this year's shindig but want to get a taste of what it's like, the festival has shared some images from the first few days on its Instagram account.

As you will see from the galleries in this article, there's a reason it has gained a reputation as one of the most spectacular music festivals on the planet. Click the arrows to the right of each picture to see more snaps.

Next year the festival will have an increased capacity of 76,999 after Winchester City Council approved the organisers' expansion plans, which they had been working on for three years.

And we will get a slice of Boomtown right here in Bristol later this year, in the form of a new events space at their industrial HQ on Albert Road.

The 3,500-capacity venue, which was approved at the end of July, will host a maximum of 24 event days per calendar year, with the licence initially running from October 1, 2019 until September 30, 2022.

We can't wait until the first of the events, which is due to take place in October. It's likely to be a memorable series of parties if the festival is anything to go by...
