First pictures of what the inside of Cardiff's Corporation Pub will look like

The first images of what the inside of the revamped Corporation Pub will look like have been revealed.

The Victorian pub has been unoccupied for three years after being sold off for more than £800,000.

Incredible plans for the huge Grade II listed building were recently revealed, and now developers have shared what they plan the interior to look like.

The developers hope to capitalise on the move to more local shopping (The Coorp)

Not only will the inside of the pub be transformed, but the developers behind the project have given it a new name. Renamed ‘The Coorp the building, which dates back to 1889, will provide space for independent businesses, alongside a bar and coffee shop.

The venture will build on the success of The Corporation Yard market over the past year. The venue will have doors that open onto the yard itself which features a number of independent traders and food stalls.

Jahan Abedi, owner of The Chameleon Group, which includes Mocka Lounge, The Potted Pig and Hoffi Coffi, behind the project said: “Cardiff has an extremely diverse scene of independent traders and it is clear that our communities have re-connected with shopping local through these difficult times.

"Our vision for transforming the Corporation pub is one that keeps it in pride of place in the community and breathes new life into a building that has been vacant for far too long. We’re extremely excited to collaborate with Cardiff’s most loved local businesses as well as showcasing businesses in their infancy at The Coorp.”

Cardiff local and interior designer Tim Rice is working to transform the former boozer into an "eco-friendly, sustainable supermarket" full of local traders.

Speaking earlier in February, Tim said: "I've been thinking about it for quite a while now and it's finally coming to life.

"A friend of mine bought the building and approached me and said they want to do something like that.

"So with lockdown and prices going up and people losing their jobs, I thought let's do something like a convenience store here but where everyone is local." You can read more from Tim here.

Developers said The Coorp will "boast a rustic and industrial feel that is warmed with suspended greenery and neon lighting".

The new-look will make the building unrecognisable from its former life as a boozer. The Corporation, which was popular with Cardiff City fans on matchday, had a chequered history.

It picked up something of a tough reputation as a rough pub in its later years, with fights regularly breaking out.

Back in 2018, the historic pub was up for auction with a guide price of £500,000. But it eventually sold for £810,00, good news for Cardiff council which owned the building.

Traders can express their interest and find out more about being part of The Coorp here.
