First pictures of tragic Aberdeen beach pals who died after midnight swim

The two friends who died after getting into difficulty during a midnight swim in Aberdeen have been named locally.

Mum-of-two Karolina Pisarska, 36, and 22-year-old pal Luiza Koniuszy were both pulled from the water after a major rescue operation at around 12.45am this morning.

A large section of Aberdeen beach was taped off to allow police to carry out their investigation.

Both Karolina and Luiza are from Poland but had made home in Aberdeen.

A friend of the pair told The Scottish Sun : "This doesn’t feel real to anyone. It’s beyond comprehension.

"Everyone knows the two of them enjoyed a night out.

"They loved going out and having fun."

The friend added: "They were out swimming at the beach a few weeks ago and nothing happened. They didn’t see it as dangerous, just a bit of a laugh.

"That’s why they got a taxi to take them back down there. They didn’t think anything could go wrong."

Police Scotland Chief Inspector Martin McKay said: "At this stage there appears to be no suspicious circumstances.

"From our initial inquiries, which include speaking to a witness who was present at the time, we understand they entered the water for the purpose of swimming but sadly they underestimated the conditions."

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “Our thought are with the family, friends and those involved at this difficult time".
