First pictures of Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge as new Chelsea signing watches Wolves clash

Timo Werner has arrive at Stamford Bridge to see his new Chelsea team-mates in action for the first time as Frank Lampard's side try to secure their place in the top four by avoiding defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Germany attacker, whose £47million transfer from RB Leipzig was confirmed last month, flew into London this morning after a short break and turned up at Stamford Bridge about 45 minutes before kick off in jeans and a green shirt.

He will be free to train with his new team-mates from tomorrow, though will not be eligible to play until the start of next season. Hakim Ziyech has already been involved in training after joining up with the squad two weeks ago.

Werner scored 35 goals in his final campaign in Germany and was tracked by many of Europe's biggest clubs but Chelsea won the race to his signature after Lampard convinced him of the club's long-term vision.

The short-term direction will be impacted on this afternoon's result, though, and the head coach made a brave call by dropping goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after he conceded five goals in Wednesday evening's defeat away to champions Liverpool.

Veteran Willy Caballero lines up between the posts instead with only other change seeing Christian Pulisic come into the side in place of the injured Willian, who is also sittingin the stands at the Bridge.

Speaking on Sky before the game kicked off, Lampard said of the goalkeeping decision: "Just a choice. He has had some difficult times, so I am playing Willy. I have had to adjust. Christian comes in to the team, he would have played anyway."
