These are the first pictures of the man accused of murdering nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel at her home in Dovecot.
Thomas Cashman, 34, stepped in the dock at Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning wearing a pale blue t-shirt and light denim jeans after Merseyside Police announced he had been charged with the crime on Saturday evening.
Olivia died on Monday, August 22, after a gunman carrying two firearms burst through the front door of her home in Kingsheath Avenue, Dovecot, while chasing 35-year-old Joseph Nee. He fired a shot which wounded Olivia's mum, Cheryl Korbel, and struck the schoolgirl in the chest.
Nee was also wounded in the incident and has been receiving treatment in hospital.
Cashman, of Grenadier Drive, West Derby, was in the packed courtroom just a few yards from Olivia's parents, Ms Korbel and John Francis Pratt. He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address before sitting with his head bowed.
Cashman is accused of Olivia's murder, the attempted murder of Cheryl Korbel and also Joseph Nee, and possessing two guns with intent to endanger life - a Glock handgun and a .38 calibre revolver.
His case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where he will appear again this afternoon. A few minutes before Cashman was escorted to the dock, the court heard the case of Paul Russell, 40, of Snowberry Road, West Derby.
Russell is accused of assisting an offender, and according to the wording of the charge is alleged to have driven Cashman to an address and disposed of his clothing after the shooting, "knowing or believing him" to be guilty of murder.
Russell did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until October 31, when he will make an appearance at Liverpool Crown Court. Neither man has been asked to enter pleas to any of the charges at this stage.
