First pictures of luxury apartments near Leeds city centre unveiled

The first pictures showing what a brand new apartment block near Leeds city centre could look like have been revealed.

Plans have been submitted to build 322 new flats across four separate buildings on empty land next to the A61 at East Street and Ellerby Road.

If approved, it would mean a huge new development of luxury apartments in an area of the city that has already seen a huge turnaround in recent years, with the building of Leeds Dock and the continued development at the Climate Innovation District, led by Citu.

The latest proposals, from Yorkshire developers S Harrison, show what the red-brick buildings would look like, with the four separate blocks ranging in height from seven storeys to nine storeys.

It would include a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom rental apartments, but the buildings would also have a car park, cycle storage facilities, a gym, a café and space for shops, all built around a central courtyard.

Gavin Douglas, from S Harrison, said: "This site is on a key gateway into Leeds city centre from east Leeds and is just a short walk from the main city core.

"It also sits next to St. Saviour’s Church, and we’ve created a design that frames the view of the magnificent Grade I listed building from East Street.

"Although the land was once densely populated with terraced houses, it has been empty for approximately 100 years. In the meantime, there has been a large amount of regenerative development around it, with the likes of East Street Mills, Boyd’s Mill, X1 and Echo Central all offering residential accommodation, and Rose Wharf being transformed into office accommodation.

"This development has the potential to be the final piece of the jigsaw for this section of East Street, as well as significantly enhancing the local streetscape."
