First pictures of 'life and soul of party' Richard Canavan who died in Ibiza cliff fall

These are the first photos of a "larger than life" Liverpudlian who died in a tragic fall at an Ibiza beauty spot last week.

Richard Canavan fell nearly 500-ft from cliffs on the south coast of the island, at Cala d'Hort, on Thursday evening.

The 30-year-old is thought to have died instantly at the popular location visited by locals and tourists.

Today, friends shared pictures of very popular Richard who was nicknamed "Mr Funky" due to his outgoing personality and habit of wearing colourful and standout clothes.

Pal Paddy Pimblett told the ECHO: "I've known Richard for about three years, he was one of those people you met for half an hour and you remember him.

"His personality was larger than life, he was a joy to be around.

"He made things ten times better.

"Richie was one of the funniest people you could come across.

"His nickname was "Mr Funky" as he would buy the maddest clothes.

"Anywhere you went with him was good."

Professional MMA fighter Paddy added: "He was the life and soul of the party.

"I couldn't believe it when I got the phone call, telling me what had happened."

Friends say Richard came from the north of the city, around the Kensington area.

The alarm was raised around 10pm on Thursday with Mr Canavan's body recovered on Friday morning.

"The incident is still being investigated but there is nothing at the moment pointing to it being the result of foul play.”

It was reported locally that Mr Canavan had gone to the cliffs viewing point with his partner and friends, which is a location popular with tourists for watching the sun go down.

Emergency services at the scene needed several hours to reach him, with specialist firefighters deployed in the effort.

Civil Guard officers specialising in mountain rescues took the decision to wait until first light to recover the body for safety reasons.
