First pictures of flats planned for Llanelli's Raffles night club building

A former nightclub which closed it's doors back in the 1980s is set to be transformed into brand new apartments.

The Raffles Club building in Llanelli will be demolished and replaced by 12 two-bedroom apartments if the plans get the green light.

Developers Pass Property Development, a company based in Swansea, want to completely raze the dilapidated building which used to be a central part of the town’s nightlife.

Over the years, it has become an eyesore on Murray Street with all the windows boarded up and a crumbling exterior.

A "contemporary" building will be constructed using "modern building methods which will respect the established building line of Murray Street".

A pre-planning application report, carried out by Asbri Planning, said: "The vision for the site is to create an attractive place to live in a prominent location within the town centre on the site of a historically popular bar and club."

It's considered the development could "feasibly operate with no dedicated parking" and so there will be no on-site parking. Plans for the building, designed by Prime Architecture Ltd, show the 12 apartments will be across three storeys. Wood panelling on the outside will help give a "contemporary" feel to the development.

Plans to invest £1.8 million into the building to construct a mixture of residential and commercial lets were last mooted in 2017 and heralded at the time as a "huge boost" for Llanelli and a "kick-start" for regeneration plans.

A formal planning application is due to be submitted to Carmarthenshire Council after the pre-planning consultation period has ended.
