Emma Raducanu has trained with new coach Jeremy Bates ahead of her competitive return to court at Indian Wells.

The 18-year-old has not played competitively since securing a stunning triumph at the US Open.

In the aftermath of her maiden Grand Slam title, Raducanu opted not to extend her coaching relationship with Andrew Richardson, who helped guide her to victory in New York.

The teenager had previously parted ways with Nigel Sears, who had coached her at Wimbledon earlier this year.

Raducanu has said that she is “in no rush” to find a permanent coach despite a busy end-of-season schedule.

She will be guided by Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) national coach Bates during the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in a partnership of convenience with the former British number one.

Bates also coaches Katie Boulter, who failed to progress into the main draw at the prestigious California tournament after losing in qualifying.

Raducanu has been given a wildcard and a first-round bye, with her opening match to be against either Maria Camila Osorio Serrano or Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Two-time Grand Slam champion and Raducanu’s idol Simona Halep of Romania could await the winner of that game.

Raducanu’s father was born in Bucharest.
