First pictures from Doctor Who festive episode which had scenes filmed in Bristol

Fans of Doctor Who have been given a tantalising glimpse of the forthcoming festive special as the BBC releases two images.

On the face of it, they are not the most dramatic pictures – the Doctor seems to be counting on a wall while her companions talk around a table.

But the synopsis of Revolution of the Daleks shows that the Time Lord and her companions are in a whole lot of trouble – because they are separated and the Daleks are back.

In a synopsis of the episode, which was filmed before the coronavirus pandemic, the BBC says The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) is in prison and her friends Graham (Bradley Walsh), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Ryan (Tosin Cole).are back on Earth.

In full, it reads: "The upcoming festive special will see the return of one of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies – the Daleks.

“The Doctor is locked away in a high-security alien prison. Isolated, alone, with no hope of escape.

“Far away, on Earth, her best friends, Yaz, Ryan and Graham have to pick up their lives without her.

"But it’s not easy. Old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek.

"How can you fight a Dalek, without the Doctor?”

We already know that some scenes for the episode where filmed a year ago in Bristol and images of the Daleks on Clifton Suspension Bridge were shared on social media.

It is further West Country links for the hit BBC time travelling adventure series.

Scenes for the last series, which aired earlier this year, were filmed up the M5 at Gloucester Cathedral featuring current Time Lord Jodie Whittaker and the Judoon.

There has been no official confirmation on when the next full series of Doctor Who will be broadcast.
