First picture released of Ongar stabbing victim Aaron Keating as gardai launch murder probe

Gardai have released the first picture of Aaron Keating, 40s, who tragically lost his life after an attack in Ongar last night.

Mr Keating is understood to have been stabbed following an alleged altercation on the main street in the West Dublin suburb at 7pm on Tuesday night. He was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead.

Gardai have confirmed today that a teenager has been arrested in connection to the fatal stabbing. He is currently detained at a garda Station in West Dublin.

A garda spokesman confirmed that an incident room has been set up at Blanchardstown Garda Station, and a family liaison officer has been appointed to Mr Keating's family.

He said: "A post-mortem is set to be carried out by the State Pathologist later this afternoon.

"Investigating gardai are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of Main Street, Ongar on Tuesday evening between 6.30pm and 7pm to contact them at Blanchardstown Garda station on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."

Friends of Aaron Keating are planning on holding a vigil in his memory at 7pm at the top of Ongar Village, with those attending asked to bring flowers.
