First picture of young farmer killed in horror A96 crash

A young farmer has been killed in an horrific two-car crash as she travelled to work.

It’s believed Iona Duncan, who lived locally, may have been heading to check on her sheep when tragedy struck.

Iona, 20, died at the scene after her silver Dacia Duster overturned after impact with a Volvo XC60.

Emergency services were scrambled to the incident near Coachford on the main A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.

Iona’s car landed on its roof at the junction with Windyraw while the Volvo, carrying three men, spun to a stop opposite.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash which happened at 7.20am yesterday.

The three men in the Volvo, two aged 22 and one 48, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Sergeant Andy Ramsay is seeking any information about the two vehicles in the lead-up to the tragedy.

He said: “Our thoughts at this difficult time are with the friends and family of those involved.

“The investigation into the cause of the collision is under way.”

He also appealed for any dash-camera footage of the scene prior or during the incident.
